About the artist
Diana León

Visual Artist · Jewelry Designer · Gemologist
Born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, and now rooted in Portland, Oregon, Diana León is the artist and designer behind Retórica Jewelry.
Her practice moves between art and adornment, where metal becomes line, gemstones become color, and craftsmanship gives form to feeling. With a background in visual arts, fashion, jewelry design, and gemology, Diana creates pieces that carry both presence and meaning.
Her work is drawn toward the romantic and the unexpected: the winding forms of nature, the poetry of Art Nouveau, the dreamlike language of surrealism, the quiet history held in vintage jewelry, and the strength and complexity of feminine figures across time. These influences meet in pieces that feel at once familiar and otherworldly. Delicate yet assured, graceful yet unafraid to be bold..
Diana creates jewelry beyond the reach of passing trends. Each piece is imagined as something personal: a symbol, a memory, a talisman, or a small marker of transformation. A ring may hold a promise. A necklace may become a keepsake. A pair of earrings may carry the spirit of a place, a season, or a woman becoming more fully herself.
This intimate connection between wearer and piece is at the heart of Retórica.
Every design is thoughtfully conceived and handcrafted in Portland, with careful attention to proportion, detail, and the singular character of each gemstone. From distinctive engagement rings to one-of-a-kind creations and everyday adornments, Retórica is made for those who see jewelry not simply as an accessory, but as a language of their own.
The story behind Retórica
The name Retórica comes from rhetoric—the art of expression through language. Diana was drawn to the possibility of translating that idea into another kind of language: one made of form, color, texture, light, and symbolism.
Jewelry speaks without words. It can hold a story, reveal an identity, honor a transformation, or become so closely woven into a life that it feels almost inseparable from the person who wears it.
Retórica is jewelry as visual expression—created to be worn, remembered, and woven into your story.
Educations & Expertise
Diana holds a degree in Visual Arts from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico, and studied Fashion Design and the Textile Industry at Universidad del Valle de México. She later pursued Jewelry Design and Manufacturing, deepening her practice as a jewelry artist.
Her gemological education includes certifications from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Jewelry Applied Professional, Pearls, and Diamonds & Diamond Grading.
Today, she brings together her artistic training, traditional jewelry craftsmanship, contemporary techniques, and enduring fascination with gemstones, creating pieces where imagination takes form and every detail has a reason to exist.
